Feeding program at Vision School in an Addis Ababa urban slum.

Ministry Objectives:

Empowering Families through Mercy Work:

Empowerment of the most vulnerable in society, particularly helping orphans, widows and the elderly. The Martells work to strengthen families through food, medical, education and housing support. All mercy work is done through the lens of sharing Jesus Christ with the family and neighboring community.

Empowering Families through Income Generation:

One aspect of empowerment is helping families increase their income and become fully self-sustainable. Our focus is on those families who are the poorest of the poor. An example: in 2016 the ministry helped an abused woman with four children open a baking business.

Empowering Students:

We have partnered with a non-profit school that helps HIV/AIDS children and others in extreme poverty in Addis Ababa. Here we provide clothing as well as a regular donation to help sponsor the children.

Empowering the Church:

Scott is a Stephen Minister and has a Masters in Pastoral Counseling. Primarily through a blog, he empowers Christians to stay focused on following and serving Jesus Christ and protected from the corruption of the world (James 1:27).

About Scott & Gigi Martell

Scott and Gigi joined New Mission Systems International (NMSI) in 2009. They founded a Group Home orphanage in 2010, and began supporting several outreach programs that help young children. They are currently expanding their ministries by establishing Empowerment Centers in other Ethiopian Cities and Towns. Their objective is to stimulate programs to empower families, students and the church.

After finishing graduate school in Communications at the University of Oregon, Scott Martell worked in the communications field in SW Florida for 22 years.  In 2004, he began serving Sanibel Community Church as Missions Team leader, but never expected to go into the field himself.  However, in January 2006, God called him into full-time service in Ethiopia. While serving in the Ethiopian countryside, he received a vision and assignment from the Lord to help children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. He also has a passion for Biblical counseling, and received a Masters in Pastoral Counseling in 2014 from Liberty University.

Gigi Haile Martell is an Ethiopian national with a degree in Sociology from Unity University.  She emigrated to England in the 1990s and upon receiving British citizenship and national Youth and Child Care certification (Level 3), spent over 15 years working in the government’s Foster Parent program. She has a passion for helping disadvantaged youth and the elderly, specifically by empowering people in skills needed to help better themselves.

What’s in a name?

Our name reflects our philosophy of ministry.  Each word was chosen for a purpose and for the meaning it brings to who we are.

NEW:  We live in a world that is constantly changing.  Our strategies must constantly adapt to the changing world in order for us to remain effective ministers of God’s grace.  The unchanging mandate of preaching the Gospel challenges us to always be new.

MISSION: Mission is God’s work in reconciling the world to Himself.  Missions is how we go about participating in the Mission of God.  Mission and missions are at the very center of life at NMSI.

SYSTEMS:  This has to do with approach.  We use a systems analysis approach.  In each situation God brings before us, we evaluate the cultural, linguistic, economic, religious and political factors which will impact how the Gospel moves through a society.  We look at the available personnel, local resources, and what God seems to be doing to design a unique plan for each situation.

INTERNATIONAL:  God desires that ALL people come to Him.  He is not bound by any geographic or demographic boundary.  God is infinitely creative in His abilities to reach all peoples.

Thank You!

You’ll certainly be blessed, as you are such a blessing to those in need!
